Will I be able to return to sports after my procedure?
Yes, depending on the nature and severity of your injury. Most probably you will return with the same vim and vigor.
Does insurance cover the cost of the procedures?
Yes, typically insurance will cover the cost of your medical bills. You are of course responsible for your deductible and copays if applicable. It is always wise to contact your insurance company directly. We contact your insurance for any procedures you may need for authorization.
What is physical therapy and why is it so important in my recovery?
Physical therapy is a form of rehabilitation using physical agents such as heat, ice, electric stimulation and ultra sound therapy along with massage and theraputic exercised to help an individual maximize healing in minimal time with minimal pain. It has to be prescribed by a doctor.
Should I use heat or ice?
Ice. It reduces swelling and lessens pain.
When can I go back to work after surgery?
This depends on your level of comfort and the physical demands of your occupation.
Will I have to wear a brace?
Every case is different. We have the newest braces available and custom braces can be ordered.
What is regional anesthesia and why is it preferable to general anesthesia?
With regional anesthesia, you don’t go to sleep, you are in a “twilight state”. The area operated on will be numb and you receive post operative pain relief. There is no nausea and not the same risks associated with general anesthesia.
Will I have a big scar?
One of the beauties of arthroscopic surgery is that scaring is minimal. 2-3 millimeter puncture holes as opposed to the large incisions with an open procedures.
